Dog Door Installation for Aluminium Glass Doors 101

Hole cut out for a small dog door in toughened glass
  1. Measuring the Glass:

Precision is paramount when it comes to measuring glass. This step is critical because once the hole is cut, there’s no going back. Toughened glass cannot be altered or cut once it’s set.

When measuring, we focus on the following specifics:

  1. Glass thickness and type.
  2. Dog door flap size.
  3. Clearance between the dog door and adjacent doors or screens.
  4. Height of the dog door flap for your pet’s convenience.
  5. Ordering and Installation:

Once measurements are finalized, we proceed with ordering the glass, typically taking 4-5 days. Scheduling installation involves coordinating availability between us and you.

For Glass Sliding Doors:

We typically use 5mm clear toughened glass, maintaining continuity with most glass sliding doors. This choice avoids weight issues for door rollers and preserves the original gasket.

For glass sliding door side panels the process is much the same, we reinstall glass of the same thickness.

For Glass Hinged Doors:

These doors often have beaded top and bottom, with gaskets on both sides. The process involves careful adjustment of the glass and application of rubber or silicon to secure it.

For Trend Window glass doors, the process is more intricate, requiring removal of the door from its hinge and dismantling to install the new dog door glass.

And that covers the essentials of installing dog doors into aluminium glass doors. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
