Frequently Asked Questions
Because cutting a hole in glass isn’t like the movies, we wish it was. Most likely your door is toughened and toughened glass cannot be cut. Secondly, if your door is laminated that’s an arduous process that isn’t even guaranteed and it’s also too weak to use as a dog door.
We’d prefer you discuss options with us first, we like to use products with track records.
Good question- I’d be curious as well! The first part of the process involves us measuring the dog door and figuring out sizes, this involves our time to drive to your house which costs travel time and labour on site. 2nd part of the process involves ordering the dog door, 3rd is installing the dog door which is a second journey to your house. Aside from the cost of the glass which is often toughened and with a hole, this cost more than your average piece of door glass as there’s multiple processing steps required to manufacture this piece of glass. On average we charge anywhere from $500-600 for the glass depending on the type, and more if it’s a special type of glass other than clear. This hasn’t factored in the initial journey to your house for the measure, nor does this factor in the installation. Not to mention the cost of the flap.
So broken down you have four components of costs we incur.
1. Cost of glass
2. Cost of flap
3. Initial call out for measuring and discovery
4. Final install which can consist of 2 men on sliding doors or large/more awkward jobs.
Yes, lots. Give us a call and talk about your next project.
