I found most people don’t know that a glazier has been installing Dog Doors and Cat Doors in glass well before any “Pet Door” specific companies existed. Back in the day when I started my Apprenticeship, it was just Transcat, and it was just glaziers installing them into the glass, at least that I know of- now “speciality pet door companies exist. Personally, I think this is great, as the market appears to of 10X’d (don’t quote me on those stats haha) maybe more. Dog Doors are becoming a trending topic and the data shows that.
I’m not that old, though it’s long enough to see the transition and industry begin to commodify itself, which is what it’s going through now. Over 14k searches a month for”dog door” in Australia. This isn’t people having fun looking at dog doors, these are most likely home owners looking for a product and installation.
I see no problem with the new “speciality” market and companies installing Dog Doors into the glass, only thing is, if it’s dog doors in the glass, it should be a qualified glazier. Do you use an unqualified plumber?
As Glaziers, It’s still common for people to not really know that glaziers provide and install dog doors in glass, basically all of the top glaziers do them, including, O’Briens, Robertsons Glazing, Glenelg Glass, Adelaide Glaziers and many, many more great Glass and Glazing businesses in Adelaide.
When it comes to Glass, use a glazier. As a customer, ask “Are the guys installing my Dog Door, fully qualified Glaziers?” When installing dog doors in glass you’re best calling a reputable glazier.
The businesses I’ve mentioned above use qualified glaziers.
You don’t want to increase your chances of Spontaneous Glass Breakage either. If someone installing your dog door can’t handle or install toughened you may be compromised with a serious emergency later down the track, if the new toughened panel explodes. As it will be toughened (rarely lam), when toughened breaks it breaks into thousands of tiny pieces. Leaving you facing desperate decisions.
I don’t mean to scare you out of dog doors, I just want my customers to be certain they know the product. And stressing the importance of a fully qualified glazier.
